IEEE Ryerson’s Industry Night!

IEEE Ryerson hosted its annual flagship event, IEEE Industry Night, on March 6th 2018!

This networking event allowed the electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering students to interact with industry professionals over a 3-course dinner. Keynote speeches introduced the guests to the students, and everyone also heard a few words from the chair of IEEE Toronto himself!

The professionals that were invited are currently working in tech companies related to the electrical, computer or biomedical fields, and have first hand experience in the student to professional transition. This we invited guests from Google/, Microsoft, Siemens, AMD, Hydro One, IEEE Toronto, Bombardier, Patriot One, Bionik Labs, Sunnybrook Health Sciences, West Park Healthcare Centre, Alstom, Hatch, Ikos Consulting, and Centre of Urban Energy.

The friendly environment of the dinner let the guests ask questions to each other and share stories. The students engaged in round table conversations with the professionals and learned about the work they do, the paths they have taken, and tips on becoming the engineers of tomorrow. The night ended with door prizes for lucky students and appreciation gifts for the professionals.

The IEEE Industry Night is the biggest event IEEE Ryerson holds each year! The guest are always enthusiastic to answer the students questions or share their own stories on achieving the jobs they have today. We really enjoy holding this event each year, and hope that we can continue to help ease the students’ transition into the professional field!

  1. This is great I would want to participate I t this
It would be great to network with the industry people and know more as to how they expect the future engineers who join their teams can add worth to the work that they are doing

    1. Hi Aditi,
it’s great you want to join our IEEE Student Branch. Our applications for the IEEE Student Branch to sign up happen during the spring since we do group interviews via Ryerson email so stay tuned for that. However, I encourage you to attend our IEEE events and get to know who you are which would be good for you when building connections and if you want you could sign up for IEEE membership which is $36 USD and you will able to get a magazine with many research publishing their works, attend events for discount IEEE rates and many more.
